Situation

Android has introduced access restrictions for application data manipulation on devices running on Honeywell OS 11 and above. These restrictions have also impacted how configuration settings for the Velocity application are applied. This involved sending the wldep configuration into the application data folder for Velocity, which is now restricted.

Deploying the Velocity application on Zebra OS 11 devices has been widely covered in articles, but little information is available for Honeywell OS 11 devices.

This article describes the workaround that Velocity provides for this issue.

Environment

Scoped storage restrictions have impacted Honeywell devices running Android OS 11 and above.

Process Description

  1. On the device, update the Velocity application to version 2.1.21 or later.

  1. Deploy the Velocity File Assistant application to the device by uploading it as a package and pushing it through a profile.

Note: This application is not available through the PlayStore but it can be downloaded from Velocity's website: https://www.wavelink.com/Download-Velocity_enterprise-app-modernization-Software/
  1. Once the File Assistant application is installed, transfer the wldep configuration file, either through a package or a file sync, to the following directory on the device.
%sdcard%com.wavelink.velocity

  1. Launch the File Assistant application on the device and proceed to give it the required permissions.
Note: Application permissions can also be confirmed by viewing them through application settings.
  1. Launch the Velocity application on the device to activate the File Assistant.
Note: This will transfer the configuration file sent earlier in the shared sdcard directory to the secured application data for Velocity (/Android/Data/com.wavelink.velocity).
