AE - Disable Cellular data

Hello,

Is there a way to disable cellular data on AE DO ?

We don't have the option in the Feature Control profile (unlike Android+)

Android Enterprise

Android +

MC version : 14.3.3.1111

Thank you

Hello,

When devices are configured for the first time (or after a factory reset) AND without a SIM card inserted, the "Cellular" block is not displayed in the "Data usage" settings.

The provided script has no efficiency here.

When a SIM card is inserted for the very first time in the device, the "Cellular" block is displayed and the "Cellular data" is ON even if we have deployed the script before:

In order to disable cellular data, we have to send the script again and this is quite constraining in terms of deployment follow-up.

For information, this same behavior is observed on COPPERNIC COne2 device | A7 and SAMSUNG XCover 4 | A9.

Is there a script to make the cellular block appear in order to disable the cellular data option with the first sending of the script?

We would like to automaticaly disable the cellular data.

Any solution would be appreciated!

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

In order to answer this need, is there a script that would allow to activate the airplane mode and to force the wifi to ON on AE DO devices? Thank you

For your question posted 3 weeks ago, possible workarounds include sending the script repeatedly with either

1. pre-script in file-sync rule, which can get executed at scheduled time/regular interval or upon device getting on-line OR

2. time-scheduled  at regular interval with "task scheduler" profile payload.

Hi Raymond, thank you for the possible workarounds, however, in order to increase the efficiency of this workaround it would be necessary to define a high frequency for the script sending.. increasing the consumption of VMs resources. Also, we would not be able to follow with precision the state of our fleet (unlike with the deployment of a package through a profile). We could consider setting up a custom data if we choose the file-sync rule solution. But again, if the device has never received a SIM card, it is impossible to know if the script has had an effect on the device or not.

Hi, is there a script that will reverse this to enable cellular data again at a later date?

same as Daniel, it would be nice if we have a script that can enable (by enable i mean turn it ON remotely) cellular data.

I have client that watn to make sure their sales force always has their cellular data ON on their Samsung devices.

Did you try setting the value to 0?

writeprivateprofstring DeviceFeature DisableCellularData 0
apply featurecontrol

On AE devices, the script

  writeprivateprofstring DeviceFeature DisableCellularData 0

  apply featurecontrol

will only allow device end-user to freely turn on cellular data connection in Device Settings, quick-panel/tiles or other UI.  However, it won't directly force Cellular Data Connection on.  The legacy script commands  "setradioenable"  and  "setmobiledata" that used to work for OEM specific Android+ device agents do not work any more on AE devices. While Google seems to have defined the "writesecuresetting" command to provide some control related to cellular data/radio, my recent tests showed that related script command arguments are not implemented yet in most AE device firmware.  I hope the situation will improve in coming months.

I'm not quite sure if Soti has implemented any such support for their javascript engine yet.  This may be an alternative approach.
