Android+ Application Catalog mandatory apps not installing

Android+ Application Catalog mandatory apps not installing

Hello,

I've created Application Catalog rule with Enterpise apps (importing apks) set to mandatory but they are not installing automatically on devices (Zebra TC80 Lollipop AOSP) and only thing I see in log is information that mandatory app is not installed without any explanation

Hi Mike,

Are your devices Enterprise or are they Android+ devices?

As a test are you able to side load those applications onto the device and if so do they work?

Hi,

thanks for reply.

they are Android+ (I've tried to add them as Android enterprise but in that way it I saw only Google Play tab in MC Agent Application Catalog on the device) - I've tested TC80 Lollipop and TC56 Nougat with same result.

Yes the applications works when loaded manually (or via using "mxconfig" script command - also using soti script "install" command but in that way app requested permissions are not automatically granted - as if installed manually that is shame and I would expect SOTI agent to have this feature/privilege)

Have you tried creating a SOTI Package for delivering the APK? Using a file delivery package plus a post install script with an install script command doesn't really make sense when you can import the APK as an APK into the package itself and SOTI will install it as such.

Hi Matt,

thanks. Installing using FileSync, Package, manuall etc does work. By 'install' comand script I've meant transfering apk file manualy without Profile or Package and just 'lanuching' installation remotely. But this 'install' metod does not grant permissions as MX AppMgr thats why I'm using mxconfig script on top of FS or Package post-install script. But this should have nothing to do with Application Catalog rule (afaik) I'm asking here.

By design, apps marked as "Mandatory" in Android+ App Catalog rule are NOT silently pushed to any Android+ device from any brand.   The fact that it is marked as mandatory only allow MobiControl administrator to use Alert rule to generate warning email(s) or other actions if such app has still not been installed "manually" by the device end-user.

On the contrary,  for iOS DEP/VPP and Android-Enterprise device platforms,  apps marked as "Mandatory" in App Catalog rule are meant to be silently pushed to the targeted devices.

Yes. That was true for previous versions and it was IMHO one of most pointless option. And according to https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v14.2/en/console/gsrindex.html?gsrid=reference/dialogs/rules/appcatalog/androidplus/appcatalogaddeditadvancedandroidplus.html it should finally install automatically as I would expect for long time

Hi Mike,

I believe the link you are referring to is in the image I am attaching, along with the information that the application will "install automatically".  The link you posted didn't resolve to the correct help page.

As an Android + Application Catalog rule you should be able to use the Suggested and Mandatory as described however I do have to note that I have overheard other technicians discussing issues with this and have reviewed a similar developers ticket.

I would assume that you are still experiencing that the application isn't installing "automatically"?  Please Confirm which version of MobiControl and the MC agent version this is happening on?
