Android Enterprise - Lockdown Notifactions

Android Enterprise - Lockdown Notifactions

We use the lockdown mode on 99% of our Android Enterprise devices (mostly Samsung Tab A's like the SM-T295) and part of our lockdown solution is to block the expansion of the notification bar.

The problem i have is that if someone gets a text for example, the only notification they get is on the lockscreen when you unlock the device. Once the device is unlocked and on the lockdown mode there is no visual reminder that they have a notification.

Is there a way of getting 'badge app icons' to show on the lockdown mode if the user gets a notification? (i.e. a little number 1 appears over the Messages app if they have an unread message)

Only possible option I see is to add separate icon on lockdown for notifications which will show notifications for all apps including text. Modify lockdown html template to include those notification. If that helps I'll check for html for notifications

Thanks for the suggestion Ravikant - i'll give it go.

Do you know what app identifier i would use for a 'notifications' app? I'm using a Samsung Tab A (SM-T295) on Android 9.

It would be action://net.soti.mobicontrol.VIEW_NOTIFICATIONS

Perfect thank you.

I've just tried it on my demo tablet and i'm getting the following message when i go to launch that action:

"Notification listener permission is not granted"

Is there some sort of script i need to sent to grant this access?

I've also just found the following link:

https://www.soti.net/mc/help/v14.1/en/console/configurations/profiles/configurations/categories/restrictions/lockdown_notifications.html

Do you know if this is designed to add the notification count to each app's lockdown image?

I'm getting the same error about the notification listener - has anyone figured this out?

Hi Jake,

It's a permission that needs to be enabled in settings. On my Samsung tablet its under Special Access > Notification Access.

I haven't found a way of doing this by script, so i've been doing it manually on each tablet which isn't ideal.

Try below please and let me know how this goes. and yes make sure notification permissions are granted to Mobicontrol as mentioned in help link.

Instruct your device users to grant the SOTI MobiControl agent notification access permissions.

The location of this setting differs across operating system variations. Common paths include:

  • Settings > Apps and Notifications > Advanced > Special App Access > Notification Access
  • Settings > Apps > Configure Apps > Special Access > Notification Access
  • Settings > Sounds and Notifications > Notifications Access

1. Go to the lockdown and as you would add an app add the following:

Display Name: Let says notification
Package Name: action://net.soti.mobicontrol.VIEW_NOTIFICATIONS
Image: Application.png or any image of your choice

2. adding in html code to add an notification icon on the main icon as you would say Notification.
(i) To display image: Modify the lockdown template to include the correct <img src="<MCDispImgN>" /> tag. where 'N' is the menu item index for the "Notification Activity". For eg., if the index is ‘2’, then

<li><A href ="<MCLink0>"><img src="<MCDispImg0>" /><div class="txt"><MCDISP0></div></a></li>

(ii) To display Count badge: Modify the lockdown template to include the following information:
- The <MCNotificationN> tag should be added to the "Notification Activity" menu item.

Eg:

<li><A href ="<MCLink0>"><img src="<MCDispImg0>" /><div class="txt"><MCDISP0></div></a><MCNotification0></li>

- The template should contain the CSS section for “.mc-notification-on”
.mc-notification-on{position: absolute; top: 5px; right: 25px; text-align: center; color: white; border-radius: 10px; background-color: red; width: 20px; font-weight: bold; }

Machine generated alternative text:
Lockdown Menu Template Editor
cli>ca hrs_f -
. mc-notification-on{
position: absolute;
top: 5px;
right: 25px;
text-align: center;
color: white;
border-radius: IOpx;
background-color: red;
width: 20px;
font-weight: bold;

<div class="

It should show lockdown as below:

Thanks for the responses. It looks like we cannot get the Notification Access settings because we are using Android Go devices...

Cheers Ravikant,

I did raise a ticket with SOTI about this last week as it appears you can only get the icon to appear on one app per lockdown.

This has been raised with SOTI as a feature request so hopefully in the future we'll have a better solution.
