"Black Out" of user display when remote control into device

Greetings,

We have at least one customer who has asked if there is any way to "black out" the remote device's display when they remote control into the device.  The reason behind this is to hide things like administrative passwords when they are being typed.  On certain devices, the typed character is displayed momentarily before being replaced by an asterisk when a password is being entered, and they feel that this might compromise the security of the device and/or apps.

Our customers use the Android+ agent on Panasonic FZ-A2 tablets, but are looking to migrate to Android Enterprise.

I have looked and cannot find any such capability within SOTI.  I am open to suggestions, even if they are not within the SOTI functionality.

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Craig,

Currently there is no way to accomplish this via MobiControl. However if there are some MobiControl users who you would like not to have functionality to remote control the devices, you can disable these permissions in the Security tab under Device Group Permissions for individual users for different device groups. Please let me know if you need more information on this.

Even though tracking when a user is about to enter password and blocking the screen will be difficult to implement but I would recommend you to create a support ticket for this issue and submit a feature request for this feature to be added to MobiControl.

You can log a support case here

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks

SMod,

Thank you very much for your reply.  I wanted to clarify the functionality.  Basically, if I am an administrator and am remoting into a device, I would like the option to disable the screen on the device so that only I can see the screen on my remote control, and the user at the device cannot see what I am doing on the device.  I used the password entry as an example, but it isn't just when an administrator is entering a password, it would be a manually initiated option available to the administrator remoting in.

TeamViewer and LogMeIn both have this functionality.

Per your recommendation, I will submit a feature request for this.

Thanks again,

Craig

Not exactly what you're looking for but you could temporarily send a script to the device to turn screen brightness all the way down before initiating the RC session. With the screen brightness all the way down, the screen is still visible at the same brightness level in Remote Control while the screen would be more difficult to see at the actual device level.

Matt,

Thank you for that suggestion.  I'll give that a try and let you know if it works for us.

Matt,

I tried that by sending a Writesecuresetting -sys screen_brightness 0 command via script to the device, and it did dim way down, but unfortunately not enough to be effective.  But I do appreciate the suggestion and it definitely was worth a try.
