Device initiated device removal

Device initiated device removal

In our envoriment broken devices get replaced with other ones using the same devicename in soti. When a broken device gets repaired it gets reinstalled , the agent and all most of the software are beeing removed and it gets reinstalled to be used elsewhere possibly with different config. Due to the fact that the device is still in soti it sometimes gets wrong packages etc, the personell that takes in the broken devices dont have access to the soti console so they often dont get deleted correctly.

This would be solved if we could initiate a delete from the device itself right before we uninstall the agent for example.

So,Is it possible to delete a device from soti using a commandline or script initiated from the device itself? This question is for win ce and windows desktop clients.

Hello De_Johan,

On Windows Desktop Classic devices, there is an uninstall.bat file located in %PROGRAM FILES%\SOTI\MobiControl\, this will remove the agent from the device and unenroll it from MobiControl.

For Win CE, you should be able to uninstall MobiControl from Remove Programs. With Win CE, you will need to make that a few specific files are also removed, otherwise the device may re-enroll with it's previous setup.

You can find the list of files to check here.

Thankyou for the reply but my question was how to remove the device from soti completly. When i unisntall the agent with your instructions and reinstall it again the device is again recognised by soti and gets its previous settings. Meaning it wasnt deleted from soti completly.

I managed to solve the issue with a powershell script that talks to the soti web api to get this done.

Please note that recent v13.4 and v14.x MobiControl releases include an option at the bottom of  the Global-Settings -> Configure Logging & Alerts Maintenance tab in the web console as shown in the screenshot.

Thankyou. I didn't knew that that option was availalbe. Strange that it has been put at the logs & alert maintenance options.
I guess my scripting work was for nothing :-).
