Disable Briefing / All Notifications

Disable Briefing / All Notifications

We're currently using Samsung Galaxy Tab A devices with SOTI MobiContronl installed.  We're utilizing Application Control whitelisting applications to run.  However, when the device locks and is on the lock screen the users are able to click on Briefing and open the application; I see other notifications there too.  Is there a way to remove all notifications from the lock screen via a script in a package?  Is there a way to disable the "Briefing" flipboard.boxer.app package from being ran using a script in a package?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you....

Go to Settings -> Lock Screens And Security,  and configure the Screen Lock type to Password and change the associated notification settings as shown in the diagram.

You might need to reset the screen lock type first to "None/Swipe" (i.e. no screenlock) first, and then set it to "Password/PIN" again in order to get the prompt to change the notification settings.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.. I know how to disable the setting by manually doing it on the devices.  However, I was hoping to not have to touch every device to do this.  I was hoping there would be a command/script I could write in a package and assign to the profile and push to all devices within the assigned group.

Thank you,

Travis

Depending on your firmware & device agent versions, and the permissions setting of your device agent, you should be able to disable all lockscreen notifications on most Samsung devices running Android+ device agent with the following:

  writesecuresetting -sec  lock_screen_allow_private_notifications 0
  writesecuresetting -sec  lock_screen_show_notifications 0

Good luck.

Hi Raymond,

I will try to run these commands via the "Send Script" available on the context menu while remote controlling the device.  I don't deal with SOTI management on a daily basis and sometimes go months before I need to look at things and forget what I've done previously so I apologize for my ignorance.

Thank you for your replies,

Travis

Hi Raymond,

I appreciate the attempt but this isn't working on my devices.  I've tried the combination below -

Run commands via context menu individually -

writesecuresetting -sec  lock_screen_allow_private_notifications 0
writesecuresetting -sec  lock_screen_show_notifications 0

Then I went into the device and manually changed the lock screen from Swipe to None and toggled back.  The notifications slider is still enabled.

I've restarted the device after checking this and the slider remains.

Not sure what else to do but thank you for your reply.

Have you checked Lockdown Notification configuration in "Settings" after sending the script command?  If they remains unchanged on your Samsung Tab A, you should check whether or not the "Apps that can change system settings" permission has been granted  to MobiControl in Settings->Apps->MobiControl tab.

Make sure it's enabled and retry sending the script.  If it still fails , check for any error message(s)  shown on the device agent log or web-console device log.

Hi Raymond,

Thank you very much for your help and reply.  I've applied the scripts again and attached the following images to show the Web Console and Device Log.  I've confirmed that in the MobiControl App that Notifications are still set to "Allowed" and "Apps that can change system setting" is set to "On".  However, the scripts aren't changing the settings for some reason :-(

Thank you,

Travis

There is nothing wrong with the script command itself. I've been using them successfully countless number of times on tens of Samsung device models and hundreds of Samsung devices in the past few years.

I strongly believe the main problem is related to the new Android permission model defined by Google and/or whether Soti device agent gets the required permission.   I started to encounter similar problems for some device models a few months ago, and scope of device affected seems to get bigger now.    I haven't figured out the procedure to make it always work again.  Maybe it's totally impossible due to new permissions behaviour defined by Google and/or corresponding firmware changes by Samsung.   I believe there is nothing we can do for the time being.  Just wait and see if there is any fix/work-around in the future.

I'm sorry I can't help at this stage.

Greetings,

I seem to have the same issue.  I'm using the Tab A with Android +

I notice on my test tablets that I'm getting notification's on the lock screen.  I have a lockdown policy in place as well.

Was this issue ever resolved?  Any help is much appreciated.

I just did tests using latest Samsung Android+ device agent (v13.5.01677 ELM) on some other Samsung device models.

The writesecuresetting  command works for some of the setting options I tested, but it still fails to change the notification settings for locked screen.

I'm not sure if Samsung support team is working on it with a formal support case ticket opened by anyone.   Even if there is one, nothing may be done by Soti if Google new Android's permission model  or Samsung firmware do not allow these options of interest to be configured remotely with the existing MDM api, which actually still works for some other Settings'  options.

If there is no script command to do what you want,  a last resort is probably to use remote control session to perform the configuration remotely one device at a time.

It appears that there is a current open Feature Request placed for a similar request.
I have commented on the internal ticket and linked to this thread for visibility and to see if the two are related.

I hope provides some insight to this thread.

Hi GMod,

Is there any update on this feature request? I'm working on a similar issue with disabling notifications and this would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,

Matt
