Disable Notifications for AE Devices per App via a Script

Disable Notifications for AE Devices per App via a Script

I've got some Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (SM-T295) devices running Android 10 and enrolled via AE.

They are constantly making background notification noises, which I believe is coming to from the Google Play Store.

Does anyone know of a way to disable notifications on a per app basis via a script that i can send to the devices?

As you haven't provided sufficient details about your server/agent versions and the notifications source/contents,  it is difficult to suggest any possible solution(s).

However, assuming that you have a recent enough device agent on a properly enrolled AE work-managed-device, you can consider using the script command

    afw_set_permission_grant_state package_name  permission_name   allow | deny

to grant/remove selected permission for a particular app

Hi Raymond

Apologies for the lack of detail in the first post, please see below:

Server: Windows Server 2016 (on premise)

MobiControl Version: 15.3.1.1151

MobiControl Agent: 14.5.1.1074

Enrolment: Android Enterprise - Work Managed Device

Device Make: Samsung

Device Model: Tab A 8.0 (SM-T295)

As for the source of the notification noise, this is very hard to say as there are no actual notifications showing, and when I go into Settings>Notifications it list the apps that are sending the most/recent notifications but they dont match the timeframe that i am hearing them. The notification noise constantly goes off in the background almost as if it is glitched, but no notifications show. I have been able to reduce the amount of notification noises by disabling notifications manually on the tablet for the Google Play Store and MobiContol, but i have hundreds of devices that this will be affecting and manually going onto each tablet to perform this action will be extremely time consuming.

Using the script that you mentioned in your reply, how would i would i for example disable all notifications for the Google Play Store?

Let me know if you need any more info, any help is appreciated!

Kind regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

You need to find the source of the notification (i.e. the bundle ID of the app activity/service module) if you want to disable it using the script command mentioned.

As you heard noises without seeing any actual notification message, I suspect there are bugs in your device firmware.  Have you tried upgrading any available patch on your SM-T295?

Also, do you hear such noise if your device is not using any MDM solution?  Is such problem specific to SM-T295 or equally applicable for other device model(s) or to same device model of different firmware version?

Hi Raymond

Thanks for the response.

It has only started happening in the last month or so, so suspect it is linked to a firmware update on SOTI/Samsung's end.

The device is running the latest available firmware with regards to both Android and MobiControl - and from what i can tell it only happens on the SM-T295's (although we dont do many other devices so its hard to guage)

How would i find the source of the notification if there are no notifications showing when the noise occurs?

Kind regards,

Ryan
