Enrolled and Active device is not shown in Device List but is shown as online when assigning profile

All of a sudden it seems that one of my devices has disappeared from the device list, if I go to Profiles and then try to assign the profile to a device group I can see that the device is enrolled in the group I am selecting and that it is active and connected..... as shown below.

However, when viewing the device group the device is not shown?

Seems to be quite strange behaviour, this is also stopping me from remote controlling the device.

Any ideas how to resolve other than removing the device group and starting again??

What are your MobiControl server version and build numbers?

Did you check the status of any profile deployed/revoked successfully after you had enrolled the device onto the server?

Do you find similar problem for other device(s)?  If so, how many?  And how many devices do you have on your whole system?

Hi Raymond,

Mobicontrol version on the server is 14.1.5.1284 and the device agent is 13.5.1 build 1234 (ELM). This device was originally enrolled and had been working fine (it was yourself that assisted me with enrolling Android+ devices).

The device had a profile assigned after it was enrolled but yesterday it disappeared from the device list, it had not been removed and the profile was not revoked.

I then removed and reinstalled mobicontrol agent on the tablet device (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6) but could see that it already existed in the profile assignment section, however it will still not show as a device in the device list.

I've not had this issue with any of the other tablets or devices that we have enrolled at the moment, I have 2 other Android tablets enrolled..... they're all the same make and model as above.

Many thanks,

Becky

Hi,

Have you tried to sync with the database?

Global Settings -> Mobicontrol Search Sync Interval -> Sync Now

Hi Becky,

I'm not from Soti, and my suggestions are by no means official nor authoritative.    Within the last few years,  I have seen similar situation only once for one customer, but their server version was v13.4 rather than v14.1.4.

It's possible that there's something wrong with the caching mechanism of the v14  search module or the web-console UI.  The first thing you can do is probably to shutdown and restart the search module with MCadmin.exe. or the whole Microsoft server hosting MobiControl.

If the problem still persists, then you can probably try using the search function in the device view of you v14 UI.    You can use "device name" equal/contain as the search criterion at the top, and  check  the "View All Devices" option on the left.  If you can see the device, maybe you can try dragging and dropping it into another device group to see if everything works fine there.  If so, leave it there, and try to delete the problematic device-group.  If it cannot be deleted, at least rename it to something to remind all administrators not to use that folder any more.  You might need to open an official support ticket with Soti support team to further investigate what cause problem with this device-group.

If you cannot see the device with the search function mentioned in the last paragraph,  the next thing you can do is to add a new device relocation rule.  Define the IP range to be 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255, and relocate to a new device-group ("AIMSLite2" say), and assign the rule to the problematic device-group "AIMSLite".  If possible, toggle the device's Wifi/cellular off and then on  to manually create a trigger event at the server.  Hopefully, the device will be automatically relocated to the new device group.  You can then check if everything works fine there.  If so, clean up the problematic device group as mentioned in the last paragraph.

Good luck.

I have been seeing this UI issue a lot recently in 14.1.x versions and have been upgrading to 14.1.7 or 14.1.8 in order to remedy it but now I'm thinking that it was likely just re-syncing the main db with the search db as part of that process. Thanks for posting this alternate solution, I will certainly attempt this first in the future.

What are your server version and build numbers?   Does this happen for one device or for a lot of devices?  In the same device group or in different device groups?

If it is v14.x, have you tried changing the search sync interval?

I did not find similar problem so far on my v14.x implementations.  What are your problematic device brand/model?

Have you been able t successfully enroll any new device without your reported problem after your upgrade to the current version of your MobiControl server?
