How to import list of devices from excel in searchbar in order to search for multiple devices at once?

Hi,

I have to add multiple devices in different virtual groups in order to assign different files from content library to each group.

But in order to do that, I have to manually paste each serial number, then type "or", than again paste next SN, type again "or" and so on..

Any way to paste all serial number in the search bar at once? Devided with some special symbol...

Or import data from file in the search bar?

Or directly import devices in groups in the SQL tables?

I have around 600 devices, and this is a lot of copy and paste...

Hi Todor,

You may use "Custom Attribute" for your case, for each Virtual filter group's target devices you can create a custom attribute value for example:
Custom Attribute Name: Virtual Group

Custom Attribute Value: Group-A (depending on the devices that you wish)

You can export the list of devices from MobiControl Webconsole first (based on your filter view, such as only devicename, device ID etc.) and then save it to your PC. After that you can edit the excel file by adding custom attribute values by copy/paste for any devices that you want on excel. When it's done you can import the excel list to Mobicontrol Webconsole to tag devices custom attribute values in one shoot.

After this step, you can go to your Virtual Group, and you can use "Custom Attributes" filter instead of Serial Number. Here you can find more details on importing custom attributes: Import Custom Attributes (soti.net) on SOTI website. And below is some details as well:

  1. Create a new Custom Attribute
    1.  Go to “Hamburger Menu” --> Global Settings --> Device Settings -->Custom Attributes, and then Click “+” sign to create a new Custom Attribute

2. Create a new view from MC WebConsole

  1. You may select only “devicename” and “device ID” filter for a new view.
  2. Export the list of devices as csv format

3. Open the “csv file” that you downloaded on previous step, and be sure that your excel cells are “text” based format instead of general etc.

4. Verify that you can see the Device IDs as a longer format as below (highlighted as green)

5. Update excel columns:

- Rename “Device ID” as “DeviceID” by deleting the space between.

- Add new Column Name as “AttributeName”.

- Add another Column Name as “AttributeValue”. Then the file should look like as below:

- You can Delete Device Name and Serian number columns when you specify custom attributes name and values

6. Go to Mobicontrol WebConsole and export the excel list.

- Go to “View All” from left-pane, and then right-mouse click, then select “import custom attributes” option as below:

You should see success message after exporting the excel onto MobiControl WebConsole on right top corner notification bar section.

Verify your custom attributes are set well, by opening some devices and monitoring it's custom attributes values are all good. After that you can create a virtual group based on the "custom attributes". I hope this helps.

Hi and Thank you for your answer Zafer.

This looks promising, but I already created all virtual groups and started adding devices.

If there are no direct option I will maybe try it.

Anyone else?

Thank you again!

Hi Todor,

You can go to your Virtual Group, and search for the Custom Attribute name (that you named on Global Settings), and then use the custom Attribute value that you look for. Example below:

Even Zafer has a very good solution for you here i want to highlight that all devices that are (re-)enrolled have to set the values for those attributes (again) manually (via the mentioned file or console).

@Todor: Do you have no other logic possible to filter for so you don't need to do it that way?

Hi Rafael,

The groups are for organizational units for our regional branches.

No other logic possible, only importing values from list.

Thank you!
