Remote Control - Black screen on Android devices

Hi All,

We have a problem with Remote Desktop. When we are trying to connect to a device, we can see only a black screen, and we cannot open the device screen with the power button. This what we have checked / tried:

  • "Disable screen capture when browsing" in SOTI Surf settings is unchecked
  • _resetfailedrcdetectionflag + restartagent does not help
  • "unlock" does not help

If somebody unlocks the device physically, then it's working fine for some time, we also can lock screen, and unlock it for a few hours, but after about a day, it's the same again.

Do you have any idea what is the problem?

Agent version: 13.6.0.1257
MobiControl version: 14.1.0.1152

Thank you in advance,
Csaba

Hi All,

I have found the solution, it was very simple at the end.
All of these tablets have magnetic fold cases. As the case is closed, the tablet is in sleep mode (because of the magnet in the case). Once we open the case, the tablet is reachable via remote control.

Thank you for the help!

Kind regards,
Csaba

Hi Csaba,

Thanks for the post!

Do you experience this behavior on only a single device or a particular set of devices?

Can you recall if the Remote Control option on this device was working fine before?

If yes, what changes were done to the MobiControl server/device?

Also, do you mind sharing the Manufacturer and Model of the device to ease our troubleshoot?

Hi,

Thank you for the answer!

It's happening with all, or at least most of our Samsung tablets (Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) with Android 7.0 or Android 8.1.0 OS). There is one more additional info: These tablets are not really used very often, most of them are just turned on and used 1-2 times a week.

I don't remember if there were any changes in the past, but I think it was never really working.
We also have a bunch of Zebra devices (with different profile), and remote control works fine on them.

Kind regards,
Csaba
