Can't you just manually input the bundle-ID of the app in the application-run-control profile configuration payload? If there is a limit of the number of apps bundle-ID you can input for your MobiControl version, you can just add another profile with application-run-control profile.

If you have other issues, please elaborate in more details or show them in screenshot(s).

Hi Rathasatekun,

There is no need to use any script command such as "manualblacklist" to input the app blacklist.  Using it requiring some extra knowledge/care on how to clean up and monitor the latest settings (especially when the list grows much longer), and I would leave this approach as the last resort if things can be done in the web-console GUI.

It is easy to find the bundle ID of an Android app by looking at the end of the URL when browsing the description page of the app on Google Play store with any web browser.  Once you get it (say  com.vanced.android.youtube in your case), you can allways directly input it in the UI, rather than being limited by how many choiices is shown on the web-console UI of your MobiControl server version.

You can send follow-up email directly to Soti support site to request for improvement of the GUI (though the latest release may already have the issues partially/fully solved).  Don't rely on any moderator here to do that, though I personally believe they should PROACTIVELY do the follow-up  and gather input for product improvement, and possibly claim credit by posting on the forum about the status of the follow-up and feature-request.

Recently, there seems to be more and more posts giving bad, erroneous or irresponsible advices from someone who ARE supposedly to be giving official and authoritative advices in this forum.  I am not from Soti, and I totally support freedom of expression, and sharing of knowedge freely and frankly in an open manner by anyone.  However,  if the situation continues, I will join force with many other active positive contributors in this forum to file official complaint to Soti management so that actions are taken to improve the situation.

Completely agree RC. There should not be an official suggestion to use a script for a configuration that has a native configuration mechanism that actively manages a setting. Scripts are one-off configuration tweaks that can be helpful for troubleshooting and can be used to perform additional functions within Packages and File Sync rules but I do not feel comfortable recommending a script as a solution that is not otherwise associated with a Package or File Sync, especially given that a Profile exists to accomplish the same goal, but in a better way.

As RC mentioned, you can quite simply add the Bundle ID to the blacklist, you do not have to wait for a pre-populated option to appear. Think about how many apps are available on the Play Store, not even counting System apps from OEMs and Private applications, all with unique Bundle IDs. SOTI will not always be able to pre-populate every possible app in that list therefore the mechanism is there to also plug in the Bundle ID value directly.

Hello Rathasatekun,

During troubleshooting we may suggest to send a script to a device, to verify that the device accepts the functionality that is being requested by the UI.

The manualblacklist script should work 100% and can be turned on and off as seen below. Please test it on a device or two to confirm if the functionality works or not please.

Manualblacklist add com.vanced.android.youtube
Manualblacklist on

And

Manualblacklist add com.vanced.android.youtube
Manualblacklist off

Another step we could have suggested was to use the script “identify_activity” to ensure the correct App Id is being used for that application, on that device model etc.

After this is confirmed to work or not, we can assist further and /or suggest to create a case depending on the outcome.

As we agree that the APC profile is the best way of completing this task. It was indicated that the UI is not allowing you to use the bundle id com.vanced.android.youtube, therefore this alternate method will help us understand if that is 100% the case.

Please let us know so we can continue trouble shooting this for you.

Hope this helps,

Regards,
