SOTI Activity Supression Kiosk Mode and "Recents" button

Is it possible to get the recents button working in Kiosk mode? we can get other functions working by by adding program entries in the kiosk mode configuration. Is there a program for the funtion of the "Recents" button? (e.g com.android.....)

Depending on your Android firmware version and device firmware,  the "Recent button" should be on the left of the home button (whether a physical or soft button), and it should work in kiosk mode.

Hi,

We are running Android V9 on Samsung T510 tablets. In standard Kiosk mode the button doesn't appear and in "Activity Supression" kiosk mode, the "recents" window briefly appears before reverting back to the Kiosk screen.

Thanks!

Hello Gavin,

Thank you for requesting a response from SOTI Support Staff.

Have you tried any scripts to find the action that is occurring while the recent apps button has been pressed and the corresponding action is on the screen?   When I utilize "Kiosk mode" on my device I experience a message "No recently used apps" even though I may have opened many apps prior to enabling the Kiosk mode. (Admin mode)

I would Image that this is the expected behaviour as "Kiosk Mode" is intended to lockdown the device to a specific application.  I can do some testing for you to determine if I can open other applications and then view them with the "recent " button for you.

Nonetheless, if you have a bundle ID that you are attempting to use, please let me know (eg com.android...)

Alternatively, a regular Lockdown may achieve the task you are looking for.  See the screenshot below as to how you can switch between the two.  (Enable Single App Mode)

The Kiosk mode is leveraging the native Android Enterprise lockdown functionality. The first implementation of this removed the Home and Recent buttons completely which is the experience you're seeing when enabling this lockdown mode.

There are configurable parameters of this mode that SOTI could leverage and then expose as configurations to the lockdown within the EMM console but I don't think what you're looking for is there yet in MobiControl. These configurable parameters native to Android Enterprise are listed below with specific one you'd need highlighted. MobiControl will have to be updated in order to take advantage of these hooks so that you can be in Kiosk while also providing access to Recents.

Hello Gavin,

Following up on this thread, were you able to resolve the issue? If yes, I would like to know what were the steps taken to resolve the issue and I can mark that as a Solution.

If not, can you please try below script -

writeprivateprofstring LockdownLocal EnableRecentApps 1

OR

manualblacklist addallowed com.sec.android.app.launcher/com.android.launcher3.quickstep.RecentsActivity

manualblacklist on

OR

writeprivateprofstring Kiosk EnableRecentsButton 1

**Revoke and reapply lockdown if lockdown is already in place

Also, if this post has helped you in solving your inquiry, I would request you to mark the particular comment as "is solution", so others may benefit from this information.

Hello Edgar,

Thank you for the post, the above-mentioned option is only available under Native and not for Activity Supression.
