Time Fencing

Time Fencing

Is there any way to achive time fencing with Mobicontrol ?

Time Fencing refers to creating a periodical boundaries for the mobile devices to behave or function in a certain specified way.

Use case: Some customers are requiring that employees may not access social media apps during labor hours, but out of  labor hours they may access them

This is aimed at Android devices

Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi Edgar,

SOTI MobiControl has Alerts and Device Relocation rules to accomplish the task at hand.  Based on what criteria you would like to use ie... IP address vs location, you can accomplish the task you are interested in by creating a folder with a blacklist (whitelist if preferable) and configure a Geofence that moves the device to that folder when they enter it.

Alerts

Device Relocation rules

Hope this helps!

Hi,

That´s not quite what I'm looking for. I was thinking of a sync rule to execute a script in order to remove a profile that could be executed at the time required. And another rule to execute a script to install the profile with restrictions at another time. Would that be possible ?

Thank you.

Hi Edgar,

As your use case involves social apps, which basically functions when the device is on-line,  there can be a clumsy solution on MobiControl just by using leaps of profiles with application run control payload and carefully designed profile assign and revoke date/time options (in the "Options" tab).  The profile deployment and revocation may not be performed at exactly the designated time because of server loading and number of devices targeted, but should work within reasonable delay (say a few minutes).

This is NOT a general-purpose time-fencing, which is supposed to work even if the device is off-line as long as the settings have been pushed to the device in advance.

Hello,

I think an external app that uses the API could move a group or devices so the profiles are revoked or installed. This could be added to Windows tasks. But I'm not sure whether  Soti is willing to install the app in cloud servers.

This approach of using API still requires devices to be on-line before new policies can be deployed.  This may not be sufficient for cases that require real time-fencing in which actions to be performed can be pre-pushed to the device and the device agent can react accordingly in a timely manner even if the device is not on-line at the scheduled times.

For your API-based approach, you have to check directly with  Soti if they are willing to install your own app/app-server in MobiControl cloud servers.

Our cloud team would like to know more about this application and what ports may need to be opened, as well as discuss any security considerations this method could cause.   They have requested that we create a case so they can get more specifics on your use case to ensure that your requirements do not violate any of our policies or procedures.

Please create a case with Support@soti.net where we will be able to get more information and discuss this with you.
