Unitech TB85 Alternative to watchsettings

Unitech TB85 Alternative to watchsettings

Hi all,

We are currently working with some Unitech TB85 tablets - staged using Android for Work.

I am trying to send a script where possible to change the default storage location of the camera - and started down the path of using 'watchsettings'

However Soti reports this script is not supported by the device.

Are there any alternatives to this that can produce the same results please?

I have tried some variations of the writesecuresetting command, but without knowing the actual setting this is just pot luck at this stage.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Leigh

Is camera storage location configuable via Settings of  your  Unitech TB85  or via  some GUI owithin the camera app ?

Could you please show a screenshot?

Sorry for the delay

It is not in the android device settings, rather the camera configuration itself. There should be only 2 options, phone and sdcard

The configurability of that setting would need to be exposed by that particular app via a mechanism like an intent, Managed Configuration, or an external configuration file.

With the availablity of OEMConfig compatible apps from different Android-Enterprise device hardware vendors,  there is possibility that some device Settings parameters can now be configured via MDM/EMM/UEM solutions such as Soti MobiControl.  This should be the trend and the probability of achieving the same configuration with Mobicontrol script is getting less likely..

To make the dynamic and indpendent control of Settings available for your device brand, do not include apps other than OEMconfig app in your app-catalog rule for each group of devices using the same set of configurations.

Using this mechanism, there is no need to ask MDM vendor which parameters can be configured onwhich brand or which models.  Instead, ask the support team of the hardware devices you are using, and they can provide fixes and/or new features with updates in their own OEMConfig apps.

However,  I have just checked the latest OEMConfig app from Unitech.  There is currently no option to change camera storage location.  You  have to contact Unitech to request for a new feature in their app.  Before a new version is released, I beleive your only option is to use a third-party camera app with such control via AppConfig framework, or which has been hardcoded to use your desired directory if the app is open-source.

Understood - thank you both for the replies and advice.

It seems the best option for now is prestaging with this setting amended, and then query Unitech for future amendments.

Many thanks
